Why Is Wells so special?
Why is Wells Cathedral School so special?
It is one of four Specialist Music Schools supported by the Government's DfES Music & Dance Scheme, each providing world class musical training from the elite of the profession. Wells is the only one of these schools in which its gifted musicians are trained and educated within the structure of a convential, co-educational day and boarding school of 700 pupils aged from 3-18 years.
Specialists' timetables are tailored to combine practice with academic work, and are enriched with concerts and masterclasses covering the whole range of musical experience. The very high standards demanded and sustained at the school stem from the calibre of staff and visiting teachers. Specialists can participate in over 50 different ensembles and are offered performance opportunities in this country and abroad.
The musical community at Wells in unique. Every child in the school has access to a range of musical activities that no other school can offer. As students, they are taught by highly skilled music teachers, many of whom are regular performers themselves. As performers there is a wealth of opportunities from instrumental and vocal ensembles to regular musicals. As listeners, they hear performances given by some of the best young musicians in the country.
Wells Cathedral School provides an inspiring education set in a musically alive and beautiful environment as a brilliant foundation for life.
