Wells Hong Kong Music Society
The Wells Music Society of Hong Kong took a real step forward as its Board members hosted the visit of the Wells Chamber Orchestra and the concert held in the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong on the 22nd of March. With over 250 people attending a reception and then the concert, word of the society and its formation is spreading along with the very positive reputation of our school in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia.
Honorary Chairman Dr Yip Wai-hong and his wife were in the audience, and Mr Christopher Jackson spoke to those present about the society and its plans. "We don't want any money tonight" said Mr Jackson, "but in the future we will be seeking funds in order to help brilliant young people to attend Wells and play music of this outstanding quality." The orchestra was joined by two Old Wellensians, Jacqueline Leung and Anna Ton-an Kwan, who played together on piano and cello, showing everyone the quality of those who graduate after beginning music at Wells, and underlining that some of those with a Wells music education do return to Hong Kong and contribute to the musical life of the Region.
Mr Jackson and Head of Wells Mrs Elizabeth Cairncross hosted a dinner for the Societies' Board while in Hong Kong. The legal company and charity that is being set up in order to receive gifts and assist pupils will have five founding trustees and Directors and all members of the present Board have agreed to serve. Due to be set up by October, the Directors will be Christopher Jackson, Robert Verity, Yip Wing-sie, Bryan Carter and Jacqueline Leung.
